Where are you?
Tap Where I am or type a town, and I'll tell you how hard the ground shook there.
Last 30 Days
Each one is colored by the shaking experienced at your location, not by how big it was. Tap one to see its shaking zones.
What the shaking feels like
The number (magnitude) is how big the quake was. What you feel depends on how close you are. A medium quake right under you can shake harder than a giant one far away.
When the ground shakes
- Drop to your hands and knees, cover your head under a table, hold on until it stops.
- Stay inside. Don't run out while it's shaking. Things fall off buildings.
- Afterward, expect aftershocks. Smell gas? Get out and tell a grown-up.
- Near the ocean and it shook hard for a long time? Walk uphill now. Check for tsunamis.
